What llms.txt is
A short map of your site, written for AI assistants
Search engines have robots.txt and sitemaps. Language models have llms.txt: a plain markdown file at the root of your domain that says who you are in one line and points to the pages that matter most. Assistants like ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity work with limited context, so a clean summary helps them describe you accurately and link to the right page instead of guessing from navigation menus and cookie banners.

Where to upload it
Serve it at the root of your domain
WordPress
Upload llms.txt to the site root over SFTP or your host's file manager, or use an SEO plugin that supports it.
Webflow
Host the file elsewhere and add a 301 redirect from /llms.txt in Site settings, or use a proxy on a custom domain.
Shopify
Upload the file under Content, Files and add a URL redirect from /llms.txt to the file address.
Next.js, Astro, TanStack
Drop llms.txt into the public folder. It deploys with the site and is served as plain text.

Questions about llms.txt
What is llms.txt?
llms.txt is a plain text file at the root of your website, for example yoursite.com/llms.txt. It gives AI assistants a short, clean map of your site: who you are, one line on what you do, and links to your most important pages grouped into sections.

How is the file built?
We read your robots.txt and sitemap, then fetch your homepage and up to 29 more pages. Page titles and meta descriptions become the link text and notes, grouped into sections such as Main pages, Products, Docs, Blog and Optional.
What is the difference between llms.txt and llms-full.txt?
llms.txt is the short index. llms-full.txt is the longer companion with a short description under every page, so an assistant can understand your site without visiting each link.
Does llms.txt replace robots.txt or a sitemap?
No. robots.txt controls crawling, the sitemap lists every URL for search engines, and llms.txt is a curated summary written for language models. Keep all three.
Do ChatGPT and Perplexity read llms.txt?
Support is growing but not universal. The file costs nothing to host, is read by several AI tools and agents today, and gives you a clean source of truth that also helps when assistants browse your site directly.
Where do I upload the file?
It must be served at the root of your domain as plain text. On WordPress use a plugin or upload to the site root, on Webflow and Shopify use a redirect or app, and on Next.js, TanStack Start or Astro put it in the public folder.
What does the validator check?
Whether the file starts with a title, has a summary line, uses link sections, lists enough pages, whether the links load, whether they use your main host and whether the file is a sensible size.
