What gets flagged

Three problems that quietly cost you traffic

Orphan pages

Pages that nothing links to. Search engines struggle to find them and visitors never stumble onto them, so they underperform no matter how good the content is.

Dead internal links

Links pointing to pages that return 404 or 5xx errors. Every dead end wastes crawl budget and erodes trust with both visitors and search engines.

Self-linking pages

Pages that link back to themselves. Usually a template or copy-paste mistake, and a signal that the internal linking was not reviewed.

How it works

A link graph of your site in three steps

  1. 01

    Discover

We read your robots.txt and sitemap, then fetch your homepage and the most important pages it links to.

  2. 02

    Map

Every internal link on every crawled page is recorded, so we can count how many links each page receives and sends.

  3. 03

    Flag

Pages with zero incoming links, links that lead to errors and pages linking to themselves are listed with the exact URLs to fix.

Why it matters

Internal links are free ranking power

You cannot fully control who links to your site from the outside, but your internal links are entirely yours. Every link from a strong page to a weaker one passes authority and tells search engines which pages matter most. Sites with a deliberate internal linking structure consistently outrank similar sites that leave it to chance.

Orphan pages are the most common casualty. They are often your best deep content: a guide, a landing page, a case study that was published and never linked from anywhere. Running this checker after every redesign or content sprint catches them before they drag down months of work.

FAQ

Questions about the link checker

What is an orphan page?

An orphan page is a page on your website that no other page links to. Visitors and search engine crawlers can only reach it through the sitemap or a direct URL, which usually means it gets less traffic and weaker rankings than it could.

Why do internal links matter for SEO?

Internal links are how search engines discover your pages and how authority flows through your site. A page with many relevant internal links pointing to it is treated as more important than one with none. Broken internal links waste crawl budget and frustrate visitors.

How many pages does the checker crawl?

Up to 20 pages per run, starting with your homepage and the pages in your XML sitemap. That is enough to map the core structure of a small to medium site and spot the most common linking problems.

What counts as a dead internal link?

Any link on a crawled page that points to a same-site URL returning a 4xx or 5xx status, or that fails to respond at all. Each dead link is reported with the page that contains it so you can fix it directly.

Is the internal link checker really free?

Yes. You can run up to five checks an hour without an account, and every report gets a shareable link you can send to your team or your developer.

How do I fix an orphan page?

Add links to it from related pages that already get traffic, such as your homepage, category pages or popular articles. If the page has no value, consider removing it or redirecting it to a stronger page instead.
