Discovered - currently not indexed: how to fix it
"Discovered - currently not indexed" appears in the Search Console Pages report when Google has found a URL, usually from your sitemap or a link, but has not crawled it yet. Unlike "Crawled - currently not indexed", Google has not even looked at the content.
Quick answer
Google found the URL but postponed crawling it, usually because it does not see the page as important yet or the site's server or crawl budget is limited. Fix it by linking to the page from strong pages, keeping your sitemap clean, reducing low-value URLs and making sure your server responds quickly.
Why Google postpones crawling
Google decides how much to crawl on each site. When it sees many URLs and few signals that they matter, it queues them for later. Search Console often notes that crawling was rescheduled because the site was expected to be overloaded.
New sites see this most. So do sites that publish lots of pages quickly, or whose sitemap lists thousands of URLs with little linking between them.
Common causes
Look for these patterns:
- Pages listed in the sitemap but not linked from anywhere on the site (orphan pages).
- A large number of low-value URLs, such as filters, tags or parameters, competing for crawl attention.
- Slow server responses or frequent errors, which make Google crawl more carefully.
- Publishing many new pages at once on a young site with few backlinks.
Step-by-step fix checklist
These steps help Google see the page as worth crawling:
- Link to the page from your homepage, main navigation or relevant pages that already rank.
- Remove noindexed, redirected and error URLs from your sitemap so it only lists pages you want indexed.
- Block or noindex low-value URL patterns such as internal search results and endless filters.
- Check server response time and fix recurring 5xx errors.
- Publish at a steady pace instead of large bursts while the site is young.
- Request indexing for your most important affected URLs in URL Inspection.
- Earn a few genuine links from relevant sites, which raises how much Google crawls overall.
Discovered vs crawled: which one is worse?
Neither is a penalty. "Discovered" is usually about priority and crawl capacity, so linking and site structure fixes work well. "Crawled" means Google saw the content and was not convinced, so the content itself usually needs work.
Find orphan pages free
Find the pages Google can only reach through your sitemap, then link to them from stronger pages.

Does submitting a sitemap fix this?
A sitemap helps Google discover URLs, but this status means discovery already happened. Internal links and fewer low-value URLs matter more.
Can too many pages cause this?
Yes. If a site has many thin or near-duplicate pages, Google spreads its attention thin and postpones crawling the rest.
How many pages in this status is normal?
On a new site, many pages can sit here for weeks. Focus on getting your most important pages linked and crawled first.
Can Serafind help me fix this automatically?
Serafind connects to Search Console, crawls your site and turns what it finds into a ranked plan. It can schedule updates to weak pages, add internal links in new articles and fix search titles and descriptions. It does not change your server settings, so technical fixes like redirects or robots rules stay with you or your developer.
